Holly Gennero is the ex-wife of John McClane. Together they had two children, John and Lucy. She is played by Bonnie Bedelia in the first two Die Hard movies.
Die Hard[]
Holly and John had a strained relationship. At her new job at Nakatomi Plaza she went by her maiden name Gennero. When John arrived she was happy to see him but the two began to fight about her name change and her moving to California. She later rejoined the party and was taken hostage by Hans Gruber and his team. When her boss was murdered by Hans she steped in to make sure the hostages were all right. She kept the fact that she was married to the man that was causing havoc for them a secret until her cover was blown by the reporter Richard Thornburg. Gruber took Holly to the vault as extra insurance. When John arrived Gruber held a gun to her head but McClane was able to get Gruber to point the gun at him. John managed to pull a hidden pistol that was taped to his back out and shot Gruber who fell through the window. However, Gruber saved himself by holding onto Holly's rolex. John managed to release the watch and Gruber fell to his death and Holly was saved. Holly then punches Thornberg in the mouth for revealing her identity to Gruber. Her and John then head home in a limo.
Die Hard 2: Die Harder[]
Holly was flying on Northeast 140 from Los Angeles to Washington D.C. to meet up with her family. While her husband was waiting for her at Washington Dullas International Airport, terrorist took over the air traffic control system. On the plane she sees Richard Thornburg who revealed her identity to Gruber in the first movie. Holly soon learns that Thornburg is working for the terrorist and Holly subdues him with a taser. Holly's plane is forced to make an emergency landing and John blows up the plane and the terrorist. Holly is then reunited with her husband.
Die Hard with a Vengeance[]
Holly does not appear in this movie but is mentioned several times. In the movie John and Holly had a fight over the phone and haven't spoken since. John calls her but hangs up when he learns of Simon Gruber's location. After John kills Gruber he decides to call Holly again but is worries about how angery she will be for leaving her on hold.
Live Free or Die Hard[]
Holly did not appear in this movie but it is revealed that her and John got a divorce.
